SOLUTION FOCUSED COUNSELLING

Solution focused counselling differs from a traditional problem oriented one. It focuses more on “what’s missing?”, rather than “what’s wrong that needs fixing?” It helps people gain a clearer picture about what’s going on for them right now, what they would like for the future and what are some small steps they can take and build upon to help reach their future goals.

It recognises that people possess their own unique strengths, experiences, talents, and coping skills to help them achieve their goals.

HYPNOSIS

Ericksonian Hypnosis is a method of hypnosis named after Dr. Milton Erickson. A prominent American psychiatrist and psychologist, Erickson is widely regarded as the “father of hypnotherapy”. His approach to hypnotherapy focuses on using Indirect methods, such as metaphors, contradictions, symbols, and antidotes to influence another’s response rather than via direct orders.

He emphasised what’s important isn’t what the therapist says, but rather what the client hears that resonates with them in a useful way. Ultimately, it is their experience. “Although I am talking, this is your experience, not mine. It is taking place in you, not in me. It belongs to you, not to me. It is for you, and just for you. It’s a learning.”
